Top 5 Things to Consider When Choosing Your Check Scanner

6/1/2020

Picking the right financial equipment can be an overwhelming task. There are many different things to consider when evaluating check scanners, such as type of feed, speed (DPM), manufacturer, space constraints and more. Use these top 5 things to consider when choosing a check scanner to help fulfill the needs of your financial institution.
Picture
1. Auto Feed vs. Single Feed
When choosing a check scanner for your bank or credit union, there are top features that make each check scanner valuable in different ways. One of these diversifying features is the feed type. There are two types of feed: auto feed and single feed. The key differences between these two features are speed and control. With an auto feed check scanner, you can scan a high volume of checks without having to waste valuable time feeding every check individually. With the single feed check scanner, you can control each check scanned and prioritize attention to detail. Understand more about the benefits of auto feed versus single feed check scanners here.

2. Manufacturer
Having access to a multitude of reliable manufacturers makes choosing a check scanner both easy and more difficult. Benchmark collaborates with high-quality manufacturers as partners to provide the best check scanners options for you and your financial institution. Knowing Benchmark partners with only the best, choosing a high-quality check scanner is the easy part. Because there are so many options though, you have to carefully evaluate each partners product offering to see what unique feature is the one you value the most when choosing a check scanner. Some manufacturers even offer space saving solutions. These devices are categorized as stackable.

3. Stackable vs. Non-Stackable
Organizing desk space can be a challenge in a bank or credit union. Selecting a check scanner that has a stackable option can be a determining factor if you need more space. The advantage of having stackable devices is more room to conduct transactions in banks or credit unions. Stackable devices are offered from Digital Check, Epson, Panini and more. Learn more information on how stackables can make an impact on your teller environment here.

4. New vs. Refurbished
Because we offer complete lifecycle services,Benchmark can procure, store and ship new and refurbished check scanners and send them to your bank or credit union anywhere in the country. Some institutions choose to only purchase new, only purchase refurbished when available or implement a hybrid approach across their footprint. You have to choose what approach works best for your institution. Choosing the right partner when deciding to purchase refurbished check scanners is also important. You should not have to sacrifice quality when taking a sustainable and affordable approach. Refurbished devices provided by Benchmark are thoroughly examined by our technicians with a focus on device health and function. You can be sure your refurbished unit is comparable to a new unit.

5. Talk To a Professional

I can see how a business could really benefit from getting the right check counter to be more accurate. Making sure that they can get the right equipment from a professional could allow them to be more effective. It was interesting to learn about how a check scanner can have two types of feeds, and they won't have to sacrifice quality.

I had no idea that the type of feed on the check scanner really made a big difference. I have been wanting to start a small business but I need methods for people to pay me. Getting a check scanner and even a checkbook for myself to pay off services should help me out.
